A poorly schoolboy has raised more than £1,000 for a charity which sent him on the trip of a lifetime.
Jordan Carleton, 12, of Lochinvar Close, Longtown, is regularly in hospital receiving treatment for an inflammatory condition.
The News & Star featured the youngster after children’s charity Dreamflight took him and 11 other youngsters to Disney World, Florida.
The trip came at a perfect time, as the youngster was back in hospital weeks after his return. The three months were made more bearable as he and his mum relied on photos from the experience to keep his spirits up.
Afterwards, Jordan decided he wanted to raise money for the charity so “other children can experience the same brilliant time”.
With the help of his mum Sonia, he organised a charity race night at Billy’s Bar, in Longtown last month.
About 60 people turned up to the event, which raised £1,065. This has been boosted by Jordan’s Justgiving page, which has seen donations of £280.
Mrs Carleton said: “It was an excellent night and a great success.
“It was great to see so many people turn out and support and certainly went a lot better than I expected.”
Raffle prizes were donated by businesses including Walby Farm Park, Tesco and Morrisons, and William Howard School, in Brampton, where Jordan is a pupil, also made a donation.
“Friends also had a chance to see photos from Jordan’s trip,” Mrs Carleton added, “and a lot of people were touched by the work Dreamflight does for ill children.
“Jordan was amazed at how much money was raised and he had a fantastic night.”
The inspirational youngster already has plans to hold more events in aid of Dreamflight in the future.
