New Programme from July

The new season kicks off on 24 July with the highly acclaimed British film An Education (cert.12 – runtime 100 minutes) starring the rapidly up and coming actress Carey Mulligan, who won the BAFTA Best Actress award this year and was also nominated for an Oscar for this role.

On 14 August the devastatingly good Looking for Eric (cert. 15 – runtime 116 minutes) will ‘rush’ onto the big screen in Brampton. At first glance this comedy drama could put some film goers off but those that enjoy films from the widest sources and with intriguing themes will love this. The dialogue does include a good deal of strong language but this is the story of a man at the end of his tether, trying to hold his dull and miserable life together – wouldn’t you want to swear if it was you? The club’s advice to any waiverers is, “Give it a chance. This is an excellent film and one which could surprise you emphatically. Does it have a happy ending? Come and see.”
Where is Lourdes anyway? Well, the film of that title will be here in Brampton on 4 September. Lourdes (cert. PG – runtime 96 minutes) tells the story of a young woman visiting Lourdes and what happens whilst she waits in the queue to get to the holy site. A simple scenario yes but this film was loved at the Venice Film Festival and was one of the films to see on the London circuit earlier this year.
Diverse and interesting films, which are sometimes not on the main circuits, can always be found at Brampton Film Club.
