Giving yourself an MOT for free

A HEALTH MOT day is to be held in Brampton to encourage people to get fit and fight illness.
Kicking the project off on Tuesday at Brampton Community Centre are free gym inductions from 10am.
There will be taster sessions in Indian head massage and Reiki from 10am to 12 noon.
A class teaching people to relax will be held from 1.30pm to 2.30pm followed by a Change One Thing workshop where participants will be asked to consider lifestyle changes, from 1pm to 3pm. All activities are free.
Ali Whitworth, development worker for Wellbeing Brampton Project, said the project was inspired by research that claims exercise not only slows down the progress of disease, it can actually help reduce the risk.
She said: “While the latest brain training games and puzzles are very popular, everyone taking regular walks, doing an enjoyable exercise of choice or tackling stress could be onto a winner too. And there are lots of options on the doorstep.
“The health MOT day is a chance to check yourself out and try activities at the gym.”
The event is run with help from Haltwhistle Leisure which is providing the one to one sessions on the day.
Ali added: “Gyms can sometimes seem unwelcome and the machines intimidating, and if you haven’t exercised for a while it’s all a bit daunting. With a bit of expert advice to get you safely on the move sessions at the gym might well be the way to get some helpful exercise.”
Book your place on any of the sessions on 016977 45023 or ask at the reception at Brampton Community Centre.
