Membership to Brampton Film Club has rocketed to 180 since its launch.

A special members-only celebration will be held on November 29 and will include a free screening of the musical Mamma Mia and free refreshments.

Club chairman Eric Griffiths said: “The event is to say thank you to all of our members, who have joined and supported the club over the past year.

“It is also to celebrate the £10,000 grant we received from Awards for All, with which we were able to buy our own equipment.

“A lot of effort has gone into making this evening a success and I hope members will support it and thoroughly enjoy themselves.”

Organisers will have shown 16 films in the town’s community centre by the December.

The new season will kick off on January 15.

Films pencilled into the programme include Slumdog Millionaire ; In Bruges – the first certificate 18 to be considered by the club – and Frida – telling the life story of artist Frida Kahlo.
