Brampton new school plans get go ahead

PLANS for a state-of-the art new school in Brampton - to hold 314 pupils by next year - were given the go-ahead this week
A music room, nursery and secure playground are all included in a new build which will extend the old Brampton Junior School building at Sawmill Lane by 60 per cent.
The school, which will hold 314 pupils when completed will also be renovated as part of the ambitious project.
County councillors on the development control committee met on Wednesday to give their backing to the plans.
Brampton Junior School and Brampton Infant School have merged to form the an all-through primary school and nursery.
But pupils will continue to be taught from separate sites until the new build is completed.
It is hoped the new look school will open in time for the next academic school year, in September 2009.
Brampton Primary School now has 314 pupils, including 34 in nursery classes, with 14 full-time staff and 34 part-time staff.
Head of Brampton primary school Geoff Walker, welcomed the approval from county councillors and said: “We are all very, very excited.
“Especially because we have had a lot on input into the new facilities that we have.”
“The draft plans came to us a long time ago and we were able to develop them.
“What we have now is something we are all going to be very proud of.”
Mr Walker added that since Brampton Primary School was launched at the start of term, the school is going from strength to strength.
He said: “All the good things that existed about the infant and junior school separately are still going strong as part of the primary school.
“These are exciting times.”
Detailed plans show stepped up security with a monitored entrance, a new walled off playground and an external path leading round to a new nursery on the far side of the school.
Three new classrooms, a new hall will also be built and a new staff room will also be incorporated.
The car park will also be enlarged with a new entrance designed to keep pedestrians and vehicles apart.
